As a child, Kevin van der Sluijs always wanted to do something with the police, defence and security. After graduating from high school, the Integral Safety Science course at Avans University of Applied Sciences in Den Bosch was a logical choice. Just like in his spare time he worked as a board member of a local event organization.

For almost 5 years now, he has been working for TriOpSys, a Dutch company of about 150 employees that is highly specialized in cyber security and part of ICT Group. There, Kevin is manager of a department of 27 people, and growing, with mainly technical experts in cyber security.

A match on all fronts

"I have a predilection for public order and safety. That intrigues me enormously. Especially the organizational side of it. I am not a techie, but someone who likes to arrange everything down to the last detail and make sure that everything runs smoothly. I did my internship with an event coordinator of a safety region, and I thought that was really cool. Everything comes together there. When I started looking for a job, I came across the vacancy Safety Consultant at TriOpSys and it immediately intrigued me."

"The first conversation was an immediate hit. I came into a very warm environment with great people with all kinds of ideas about the control room world. As a Safety Consultant, I would have to advise on this, which was of course completely up my alley. There was also a match on a personal level. I'm someone who likes to take a leap of faith and at TriOpSys they were on the same page. I wasn't immediately looking for certainties like a nice house or a hefty salary. I was young and wanted, and still want, to develop myself. Those material things will come naturally. First to get started, hands-on. Dare to take that step."

In my role, I consciously stay away from the content

"In a relatively small environment like TriOpSys, you can go in many directions. Although the technology of cyber security is the core of what we do here, my heart lies with the organizational side of it. How can I make my department, our team, excel? Of the 27, 24 are techies. Most of us are also young, just as ambitious as I am, and have huge potential. We all want to learn, invest, get better."

"I want to grow in my role and enjoy this world every day."

"My personal goal is to lead my department, take my responsibilities and ensure that we can act at an even higher level. Cyber security is mighty interesting, but I still make sure to stay away from the content. I want to be able to continue to manage, direct, be organizational. To be able to ensure that the experts can focus on the content and take away all the issues around it for them. I also take care of resources, finances, training, you name it. I like to leave the commercial part to others, but for the rest, all managerial tasks have my great interest."

Continuing to grow as ICT Group

"I think it's a great development that we as TriOpSys are now part of ICT Group. The broader scope, the ambition to grow, to work for even more and larger clients and to achieve the same result there, I only see advantages. Cyber security requires our full attention on all fronts. Just take the incident with CrowdStrike. We were right in the middle of that. If you can then inform your customers within a few hours that everything is done, it gives a huge kick. It shows that we have our affairs in order, that our processes are correct and that our organisation is rock solid. That's why we do it."

Whether organizing is your passion or whether it lies with the content, if you recognize yourself in Kevin's story, we cordially invite you to get acquainted with TriOpSys. Kevin: "I didn't know in advance where I would end up, but now, almost 5 years later, I wish everyone the same career step. Here you can grow, here they see the strength in people and here you work on a world that is as safe as possible. My intuition as a child has brought me to this path, my ambition to where I am now. I don't have an end goal in mind, I want to continue to develop and enjoy this world every day."
