After a period of secondment, Huib made the switch to a permanent job at ICT InTraffic in 2015. It was exactly what he was looking for: a place where he doesn't feel like a number and where collegiality is paramount. ICT InTraffic was a conscious choice, not only because of the atmosphere - "it feels like a family business," says Huib - but also because of the content of the work. With a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and experience with testing during internships, he knew he wanted to develop further as a technical tester. "At ICT InTraffic, I immediately got the opportunity to get started with test automation, something that is close to my heart."
Growing self-confidence
Huib looks back on an important moment in his career: his first major project for ProRail. "During my vacation, my resource manager had decided to nominate me. I wouldn't have dared to do that myself. I still felt insecure, but he saw that I had potential. Once I got started, I noticed that he was right. The project went very well. His confidence in me gave me the boost I needed." With the help of a course in 'professional leadership' and the trust of his colleagues, Huib grew in his role, and his self-confidence also grew. "In the process, I became less insecure about my abilities and I also dared to make decisions more and more easily. That is sometimes difficult, but I notice that work experience plays a major role in this."

Young ICT InTraffic
Huib is now also a social force within both ICT InTraffic and ICT Group. As co-founder and first chairman of Young ICT InTraffic, he brought young colleagues together for both fun outings and educational sessions. "Young ICT InTraffic stands for a combination of fun and professional growth." Because of his age, he is now 38, Huib is no longer chairman of Young ICT InTraffic. He is now a member of the works council of ICT Group. "I think it's great to mean something socially not only to myself, but also to my colleagues and the company," he explains.
"It is great that I get the space to grow at ICT InTraffic and ICT Group, both in my work and on a personal level."

Difference between technical tester and test expert
In the meantime, Huib has developed from a technical tester to a test expert. "As a technical tester, you are in the middle of the process. You come up with and write the test cases yourself and take care of their automation," Huib explains. The focus of a technical tester is on executing and optimizing the testing process. Huib: "In my role as a test expert, that focus is shifting. It is no longer just about conducting tests yourself, but also about guiding and managing developers. I help them come up with test scenarios and support them in automating the tests. In addition, I have a broader responsibility: the overall quality of the product is in my hands. Where as a technical tester I mainly performed my own tasks, my role as a test expert is much more focused on coaching and collaboration. While the technical knowledge is still essential, it's now also about inspiring others to take their work to the next level."
Heavy metal
In addition to his work as a test expert, Huib has a passion that regularly takes him to concert halls and festivals: heavy metal. "I'm a real metalhead. I regularly go to concerts with a colleague from ICT InTraffic, who is a lot older than me. That typifies ICT InTraffic and also ICT Group: you can be yourself and people find each other, even outside of work." According to Huib, this open atmosphere, in which colleagues also deal with each other's situations and interests with understanding, makes the difference.

Proud of growth
Huib looks back on the past ten years with satisfaction. "I am especially proud of my personal growth. From a somewhat insecure starter, I have grown into a confident test expert who also wants to do something for his colleagues. It is great that I get the space to grow at ICT InTraffic and ICT Group, both in my work and on a personal level." His message for those considering working at ICT InTraffic/ICT Group? "We have interesting and beautiful work in many areas, it is very pleasant here, you have a lot of freedom of development and you can be completely yourself."
